He says there's a split within the party over Nick Clegg's promise to hold an "in or out" referendum on EU membership if elected. Mr Clegg is also likely to be attacked for his pro-European stance during Thursday's TV debate.

  1. 1638: Here's an interesting admission from one of the party leaders. David Cameron has said the Conservatives "probably deserved" to lose the 1997 election. Campaigning in Burton-on-Trent, he defended the existing first-past-the-post electoral system, saying it allowed the public to get rid of governments they had lost confidence in. Referring to the 1997 landslide defeat, he said the Tories were a "bit tired" at the time and had probably "run out of steam". He said Labour were now in a similar position and had to be voted out office.
