| In our clinics we can only apologise to any young women we see who has had her full three doses of Cervarix and yet presents in great distress with genital warts. | @F - Fon't disagree that the decision should be reviewed. If true then Gardasil should never have been chosen. But the fact that GSK is British is not unimportant - you'll find employers pay a lot of NI too. Contrast Pfizer's closure of UK R&D with the loss 2,400 science-base jobs with GSK's recent investments. No R&D = no value = no tax = no NHS = no jobs for doctors, nurse & drugs. | |

| @norwici If you factor in cost savings pertaining to genital warts, Gardasil actually works out more cost effective than Cervarix. It did at the time of the first contract and still does.Individuals in the UK pay National Insurance towards the NHS and in return expect to have the NHS deliver the best it can (within its financial constraints). | @paba1- If you speak to any public health clinician, they will tell you the two greatest steps forward in improving the health of the population are clean water ( you can include sanitation in this if you wish) and vaccination. Improved nutrition does not prevent infection. Improved nutrition does not eradicate disease ( eg smallpox). If the saved money can save or improve more lives than Gardasil would, Cervarix is the right decision, if we do not have infinite resources for the NHS (which we don't).2. GSK is a UK company paying UK tax which funds the NHS. Merck is not.The government wasn't wrong to choose Cervarix, but that doesn't mean the decision should not be reviewed. | 1.
