Violence and disorder has broken out in parts of Merseyside, as some areas are subjected to a second night of violence. A second night of violence and disorder broke out on Merseyside overnight.
Missile-throwing youths have gathered in Toxteth, south Liverpool, causing damage, police said. Police arrested 50 people - more than half of them teenagers - in trouble which spread across Wavertree, Birkenhead and Bootle.
There have also been reports of shops, pubs and cars being damaged in Birkenhead. Four fire engines had to be taken out of service after they were damaged by missile-throwing youths in Lawrence Road in south Liverpool.
Merseyside Police said a total of 46 people had been arrested over violence in Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral. The violence began when a crowd attempted to smash into a cash machine with a mechanical digger in Bootle.
Four fire engines have been damaged in Lawrence Road in south Liverpool. Their crews were dealing with cars which had been set alight. There were stand-offs with police on Smithdown Road, in the south of the city, with a large group of up to 200 youths causing disorder and criminal damage.
Merseyside Fire Service said a firefighter was slightly injured when a missile was thrown at a fire engine which was on its way to an incident in south Liverpool. Smithdown Road and Lodge Lane were closed and people were told to avoid the area.

Merseyside Police said it had an enhanced presence across the region after Monday night's riots. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said a firefighter suffered cuts to his face and neck after glass was thrown at an appliance on Smithdown Road as it made its way to a 999 call.
A spokesman said: "The force will take every opportunity to deal robustly with any criminal or person that causes problems on our streets. A BBC journalist at the scene said youths were seen making petrol bombs and several cars were burnt out on the street.
"A police operation is in place with an enhanced and robust police response to ensure that any disorder is swiftly and firmly dealt with."
