Police were called after Chantelle Blake, 31, walked into Manchester Royal Infirmary on Thursday evening, concerned about her child Kaiya. Police found the body of Kaiya Blake after being called to a terraced home on Garthorne Close, Moss Side on Thursday evening.

Mike Livingstone, Manchester City Council's Director of Children's Services, said it was "very early in the police investigation into this tragedy [but] from the information that has been given to us so far, it would appear we had involvement with the family".
The chair of the Manchester Safeguarding Children Board, Ian Rush, said "a range of agencies were involved with this family and there is every likelihood that a serious case review will be carried out".
