"It will be bright with plenty of sunshine for much of the morning across eastern and central areas but more in the way of cloud will affect western parts with further wintry showers along western coasts, particularly for Argyll, the Highlands and Dumfries & Galloway. "We are all working hard to keep Scotland moving and get back to normal where disruption does occur, particularly in the north west where conditions are the most difficult.
"Feeling cold again in brisk NW winds with highs of 3/4C for much of the mainland." "We urge the public to continue to exercise care; plan your journey, listen to police advice and check available travel updates."
He said the afternoon would bring thicker cloud and rain with hill snow pushing into western areas. The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for all parts of the country, with the heaviest snow forecast in the north and north-west regions.
