Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose headless burnt body was found near Stockport town centre.Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a man whose headless burnt body was found near Stockport town centre.
Fire crews were called to a fire in a wooded area near Wellington Street at 05:10 GMT. The man's body was found near Wellington Street at 05:10 GMT. His head was discovered nearby.
Police went to the scene and, after the fire was extinguished, discovered the decapitated body of a man, believed to be in his 20s. The man, who has not been identified, is thought to have been in his 20s.
Officers said patrols had been stepped up in the area. Supt Pete Matthews from Greater Manchester Police told reporters that detectives did not believe the death was related to criminal gangs.
Det Supt Vincent Petrykowski said: "I can reassure them that we have numerous police officers in the area and we are working very hard to find out what has happened," he said. The crime scene close to Stockport Magistrates' Court has been cordoned off and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later.
