Stockport headless body burning 'not gang-related' Two men arrested over Stockport burnt headless body

Police have said they believe the death of a man whose body was found burnt and headless was not gang-related. Police in Greater Manchester have arrested two men on suspicion of murder after a body was found burnt and headless in Stockport.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death. Greater Manchester Police have arrested two men, aged 29 and 31, on suspicion of murder.
Supt Pete Matthews from Greater Manchester Police told reporters that detectives did not believe the death was related to criminal gangs. Supt Pete Matthews said "it would be wrong to speculate" on the incident.
The crime scene close to Stockport Magistrates' Court has been cordoned off and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place later. Police are still trying to establish the identity of the victim.

Police said the two arrested men had been held on suspicion of possessing shotgun cartridges prior to the discovery of the body.
Mr Matthews said officers were conducting house-to-house inquiries and speaking to local residents to find out what happened.
He said police patrols had been increased in the area to offer reassurance to people living nearby.
He added: "Obviously members of the community will be shocked to hear about what has happened and I would encourage anybody who has concerns to speak to their local officer.
"I understand there are a lot of rumours regarding this incident and it would be wrong to speculate on what has happened, however, we are keeping an open mind and looking at every line of inquiry."
Officers had earlier said they did not believe the death was gang-related.
