University guide 2014: University of Aberdeen | University guide 2014: University of Aberdeen |

Aberdeen is an ancient university with a strong academic reputation. Its picturesque 15th-century King's College campus lies just 20 minutes' walk out of the city centre. The university offers more than 600 degree courses and has been investing heavily in student facilities in recent years with the opening of a new library, sports village and student centre. Aberdeen (or the Granite city, after the rock it is built of) is a charming, student-friendly city with plenty of good pubs. | Aberdeen is an ancient university with a strong academic reputation. Facilities There is a big focus on keeping the library (one of the largest and best-equipped in Scotland) and computing facilities state-of-the-art. Aberdeen is especially proud of its museum collections. A new £28m sports centre opened in summer 2009 (aberdeensportsvillage.com), and the new £57m library opened its doors in autumn 2011. A new aquatics centre will open in early 2014. The world-class facility will include a 50-metre, 10-lane, Olympic-standard swimming pool and will be located adjacent to Aberdeen Sports Village. | Facilities There is a big focus on keeping the library (one of the largest and best-equipped in Scotland) and computing facilities state-of-the-art. Transport There's an airport, a station that connects directly to Edinburgh and London, and plenty of good road links. It's an easy stroll or quick bus ride from the university into town. Visit abdn.ac.uk/maps/travel. | Transport There's an airport, a station that connects directly to Edinburgh and London, and plenty of good road links.
