Army bomb experts have been called to the scene of an overnight security alert in Londonderry. Two explosive devices have been discovered during a security alert in Londonderry, according to the SDLP.
The alarm was raised shortly after 23:00 BST on Thursday when a suspicious object was found in a holdall bag near Derry City Council offices. Assembly member, Mark H Durkan, said police had told him the devices were discovered close to the offices of Derry City Council.
The Strand Road was sealed off overnight at the junction with Rock Road and about ten houses were evacuated. The alarm was raised shortly after 23:00 BST on Thursday when a suspicious object was found in a holdall during a Foyle Search and Rescue team patrol.

A security cordon has been lifted within the past hour, but forensic officers are still at the scene. The road had been closed overnight and about ten houses were evacuated when army bomb experts were called to the scene.
The holdall was discovered by member of the Foyle Search and Rescue team during a routine foot patrol in the area. A number of residents were also advised to stay at the rear of their houses while the object was examined.
