Paulette Joseph, a mother-of-two who lives nearby, said: "She was a friendly woman and her little boy used to say hello to my daughter.
"It's still a shock to me. Any murder is difficult but to kill a little boy is awful. Why would anyone kill that little boy?"
Det Supt Walton said: "I would like to reassure members of the community that this is an isolated incident and an experienced team of detectives are carrying out a full and thorough investigation into the deaths."
