Search to locate crashed aircraft False alarm over aircraft 'crash'

Emergency services are attempting to locate a light aircraft that is reported to have crashed in the Aberdeenshire area. Emergency services have called off a search for a light aircraft which was reported to have crashed, after it turned out to be a false alarm.
The aircraft is believed to have burst into flames and crashed into a hillside between Torphins and Banchory. A woman had reported seeing something fall from the sky and smoke rise from the ground in the Hill of Fare area of Aberdeenshire just after 1800 BST.
The incident was reported to have happened just after 1800 BST. Insp Steve Pratt, of Grampian Police, said he was "entirely satisfied there was nothing to it".
An air ambulance was sent to the Hill of Fare area after fire and ambulance crews failed to pinpoint the exact location of the crash site. The woman said she felt she had no option but to report what she had seen.
