Daniel Day-Lewis won the award for best actor for his role in Lincoln, while French actress Emmanuelle Riva was the surprise best actress winner for Amour.

Lawrence will battle it out with Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain, Rust and Bone's Marion Cotillard, Hitchock's Dame Helen Mirren and Amour star Emmanuelle Riva. There was also honour for Channel 4 film boss Tessa Ross, who received a lifetime achievement award.
