Two lorry drivers have been arrested after a fatal eight vehicle pile-up on the M25, Essex police said. A lorry driver is in police custody following a fatal crash on the M25 near Thurrock in Essex.
Essex fire service said three HGVs and five other vehicles were involved in the crash at junction 30 at 12:30 BST on Tuesday. A man in his 70s from east London was killed and two other people were airlifted to hospital following the crash at junction 30 on Tuesday.
A section of the clockwise carriageway was closed with traffic diverted away. The crash, at 12:30 BST, involved four lorries and six cars.
One person died at the scene while two others were airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in east London after sustaining multiple injuries. Two lorry drivers were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A man, 58, from Germany, remains in police custody.
Police said they are in a serious condition. A 43-year-old man from Poland has been released without charge.

The section of carriageway has since reopened after it was closed for several hours, including the evening rush hour. The motorway was closed for a time between junctions 29 and 30 but was fully reopened at 21:00 BST.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
