Elaine Spencer, head teacher at Broad Square Primary, said: "Although Rhys's classmates have moved on to secondary school, there are many younger pupils who knew him as their friend.
"Everyone knows how much Rhys loved football, and we will be starting up an annual inter-house football tournament named The Rhys Jones trophy.
"We will also ask Rhys' parents to help us identify an appropriate charity for a huge, whole-school fundraising campaign as a way of remembering Rhys's life."
