An unemployed woman from Strabane, County Tyrone, has won almost £27m in the Euromillions lottery. An unemployed woman from Strabane, County Tyrone, has won almost £27m in the Euromillions lottery.
The win would make her the biggest ever jackpot winner in Northern Ireland. Margaret Loughrey, 48, matched five numbers and two lucky stars in Tuesday night's draw.
Margaret Loughrey, 48, told the Tyrone Herald newspaper she had matched five numbers and two lucky stars in Tuesday night's draw. The win is the biggest ever jackpot in Northern Ireland and the £27m is already in her bank account.
She said she would not allow the money to change her, adding: "Strabane is my home and always will be." Earlier on the day she bought the ticket, Margaret had been to the job market to get an application form for a job with a charity.
The Euromillions operator has not named the winner of Tuesday's draw but the single, jackpot-winning ticket was purchased in the UK. "Got up on Wednesday morning, checked the ticket, just had a notion, checked the ticket and that was it - five numbers, two stars, happy days," she told the BBC.
Ms Loughrey said she had bought the lucky dip ticket in a local Supervalu store on Tuesday after visiting the job centre. "I never panicked. I'm level-headed and I know I'll think it all through and do the right thing, see to the right people.
When she found out the next day that her numbers had come up, she said she was "in a state of shock". "It's in my name at the minute, it's £27m, it's not going to be mine, it's going to be spread around.
Ms Loughrey, who is single, told the paper she had no immediate plans on how she would spend the money. "No point having £27m and being lonely. That can't make me happy, that can only make me happy that everybody else's happy and so far everybody is absolutely delighted."
The numbers drawn on Tuesday were 19, 23, 27, 42, and 44. Margaret said she had been inundated with warm messages of support from the wider community, something she deeply appreciated.
The lucky stars were 3 and 5. She said the County Tyrone town would always remain her home and she had no intention of leaving.
