M25 partially closed after fatal collision Two New Year's Day crashes partially close M25 in Surrey
(about 1 hour later)
A person has died after a crash on the M25 in Surrey on New Year's Day. A second crash has occurred on the same stretch of the M25 in Surrey where a person died earlier.
The motorway is closed anti-clockwise between junctions 10 at Wisley and 9 at Leatherhead after a collision between a car and a lorry just after 02:00 GMT. The person was killed in the crash involving a car and a lorry between junction 11 for Chertsey and junction 10 at Wisley at about 01:40 GMT.
The crash happened on the anti-clockwise stretch between junction 11 for Chertsey and junction 10, the A3 turnoff. Another crash at about 08:00 GMT closed the road anti-clockwise between junctions 10 and 9 at Leatherhead.
A Highways Agency spokesman said the road was expected to reopen from 11:00 GMT. The motorway reopened at about 11:00 GMT and traffic queues are reported to be easing.
Traffic was being diverted off the motorway and sent via Ottershaw but one lane has since reopened to allow trapped traffic to pass.
