A man in his 40s was shot in the leg in an early morning attack at a railway station in Essex. A 44-year-old man was shot in the leg at a railway station in Essex by an unknown attacker who fled in a car.
The car park at Shenfield station is cordoned off and the man has been taken to hospital at Basildon, a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said. The attacker, who was wearing a balaclava, ran off and escaped in a vehicle parked nearby.
Police believed it was a targeted attack and have attempted to reassure the public.

An investigation is under way but there are no further details, he added. "As he got out of the car he was approached by an unknown man and received a single gunshot to the leg.
Trains are still running through the station but will not be stopping until further notice, Anglia Trains said. "At this stage we believe the victim of this assault was deliberately targeted," he said.
Police do not believe the incident is gang-related.
An investigation is under way into the motive and police have appealed for information.
Train services are are now running normally at the station, but the car park is cordoned off.
