"A report of man with leg injuries in the car park at the station was received by BTP at 05:51 GMT. Mr Clark works for brokerage firm RP Martin in London.
"His injuries are currently not believed to be life-threatening," Det Sgt Gary Richardson said. A company spokesman said: "We are aware of this morning's incident and are giving Robin all the support we can.
"It would not be appropriate to comment any further at this stage."
Police are now searching for the gunman and are examining CCTV footage of the area around Shenfield.
