Confirmation has arrived that Ben Arfa will be playing no more football this season, from the French LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel, don’t you know), who have released a statement saying that, as a result of the earlier decision of Fifa’s Player Status Committee, “the legal committee of the LFP, which had an emergency meeting this afternoon, has no choice but to prohibit Hatem Ben Arfa from participating in official matches with Nice until the end of the season”.Confirmation has arrived that Ben Arfa will be playing no more football this season, from the French LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel, don’t you know), who have released a statement saying that, as a result of the earlier decision of Fifa’s Player Status Committee, “the legal committee of the LFP, which had an emergency meeting this afternoon, has no choice but to prohibit Hatem Ben Arfa from participating in official matches with Nice until the end of the season”.

This seems like a decision that may well have been made according to the rulebook – and I can understand why the rules exist – but in the circumstances is entirely lacking in logic or reason. If a player can expect a 15-year career, if they’re lucky, Ben Arfa has lost a thirtieth of his to idiotic bureaucracy. According to l’Equipe, a judge appointed by Fifa has decided that Hatem Ben Arfa’s appearance for Newcastle’s Under-21 side in August does count as an official match and that, having also played for Hull, he cannot therefore sign for another club this season. His proposed move to Nice is therefore very unlikely to happen, with the French league’s legal committee to sit today and make a final and binding decision.According to l’Equipe, a judge appointed by Fifa has decided that Hatem Ben Arfa’s appearance for Newcastle’s Under-21 side in August does count as an official match and that, having also played for Hull, he cannot therefore sign for another club this season. The Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is saying he will arrive in London tomorrow morning, that Salah will indeed head the other way. Vincenzo Montella, the Fiorentina coach, has been speaking of Cuadrado’s deal today as if it’s complete. “I was looking on YouTube for a Stoichkov chip – I think it was against Man Utd in the early 90s – the one where the Bulgarian maestro wiggled into the box before putting his foot on the ball and looking around – “Look how much space I’m in, look how easy I beat you,” he seemed to be saying – and then scooping the ball over the standing Schmeichel’s head as the least obvious way of finishing the move (Stoichkov was famous for his powerful strikes, after all),” writes Michelle Lesley Ward. “I think that was the first time I realised that scoring a goal could also be a way of insulting the other team. Good old Hristo! Made from the same stuff as Suárez and Costa, probably better, probably crazier. I couldn’t find the goal so I thought I’d just describe it. Plenty of people must remember it.”
Can anyone find this goal? I can find a decent chip scored by someone playing against Stoichkov.

Steve Bruce as warned that the deal for Dame N’Doye might not be completed before the transfer window closes, even though Hull have agreed a fee with Lokomotiv Moscow.
We agreed a deal yesterday between the two clubs, which we’re pleased about, but there’s still a lot to do. A lot. The boy has been away at the African Nations. Logistically he’s just left Africa and there’s medicals and the rest of it, like personal terms, to be done by Monday. It’s going to be difficult.

This just in from FA HQ, where Diego Costa’s attempt to avoid a three-match ban has flopped and he will thus miss this weekend’s match against Manchester City.
Diego Costa will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after a charge of violent conduct against him was found proven by an Independent Regulatory Commission on Friday 30 January 2015.
The Chelsea forward had denied the charge in relation to an on-field incident involving Liverpool’s Emre Can which occurred in the 12th minute of the League Cup semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday 27 January 2015.
The incident was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

Richard Dennis has alerted me to the number of superlative chips in this little highlights package (it’s just a shame about the quality of the video, but you can’t win them all).

And Novak Djokovic will play Andy Murray in the Australian Open final after winning the final set against Stanislas Wawrinka by the astonishingly-one-sided-given-the-rest-of-the-match score of 6-0.

I am very happy to confirm that my six nominations were delivered to FIFA this week ahead of the deadline.
I'd like to thank my colleagues and friends from the nominating FAs and across the football family who have already given me their backing
