'Keep windows closed'
Motorists on the nearby M60 have been advised by the fire service to take care while driving due to smoke.
In a statement the fire service said eight fire engines, an aerial appliance and a command support unit have been sent to the scene.
The officer in charge of the incident, area manager Wayne Shields, said: "There is still a lot of black smoke coming from the scene so we would ask people to take care - keep your windows closed and stay away from the area while we deal with this incident."
