Election 2015 live: Nigel Farage admits Ukip have 'slipped back' in polls but hails EU focus of Tony Blair speech Election 2015 live: Labour announces crackdown on non-dom tax arrangements amid confusion over Tory response
(about 17 hours later)
With one month to go until the general election, Tony Blair and his wife Cherie have entered the campaign in a dramatic attack on David Cameron and the Tories over Europe. As the general election campaign hots up, Labour has made probably the most significant campaign policy announcement so far: scrapping non-dom tax status for the very wealthy.
But the intervention supposedly designed to help put Ed Miliband in to Downing Street may actually have played straight into Nigel Farage's hands - and has been welcomed by the Ukip leader. The announcement seems to have caused disarray in Conservative ranks with apparently contradictory statements from the Chancellor George Osborne and Education Secretary Nicky Morgan this morning.
Mr Blair hit out at the Conservatives for "trading" the issue of an EU referendum to "access some of the Ukip vote", and Mr Farage said the comments were "quite right".
