Eight men have appeared in court in London charged with plotting the Hatton Garden jewellery heist. Eight men have appeared in court charged with plotting to steal more than £10m worth of jewellery and other valuable items from safety deposit boxes in London’s Hatton Garden district.
The men, who arrived at Westminster magistrates court in a convoy of police vans with an armed police escort, were all remanded in custody. Terry Perkins, 67, Daniel Jones, 58, and Hugh Doyle, 48, all from Enfield, appeared at Westminster magistrates court alongside William Lincoln, 59, of Bethnal Green, east London, and John Collins, 74, of north London. Brian Reader, 76, and Paul Reader, 50, both of Dartford, and Carl Wood, 58, of Cheshunt also appeared.
As they appeared in court, Scotland Yard said a 10th man had been arrested over the raid at the security vaults in London’s jewellery district over the Easter weekend. A ninth suspect has been bailed pending further inquiries. The men appeared side by side in two rows in the dock, dressed in a variety of grey, black and brown jumpers, while a number of them wore glasses. Perkins’ spectacles hung around his neck by a cord.

The Metropolitan police said the 10th arrest was of a 42-year-old man in Essex at 9.40am on Thursday. He was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle and was being taken to a London police station for questioning. A ninth man has been bailed pending further inquiries and a 10th man, a 42-year-old from Essex, was arrested in connection with the heist on Thursday.
