(34 minutes later)
Two people have sustained "life threatening injuries" after lightning strikes in the Brecon Beacons in Powys on Sunday. Two people are dead, and two others are in hospital, following separate lightning strikes in the Brecon Beacons in Powys.
The pair, including a man in his 50s, were flown by an RAF Sea King helicopter to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. Emergency services were called to areas around Pen y Fan in the national park at midday on Sunday.
A third person was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Welsh Ambulance Service said. Two individuals were airlifted to hospital in Merthyr Tydfil with what were initially described initially as life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services were called to Pen y Fan at about 12:05 BST on Sunday. Two others are also being treated - one at a specialist burns unit in Swansea.
It is understood that two of the casualties were on Cribyn, while the third casualty was on Corn Du, south-west of Pen y Fan. A spokesperson for Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr confirmed on Sunday evening that two of those taken to the hospital had died.
"We received a call at 12.04pm on Pen Y Fan in the Brecon Beacons that a male had reportedly been struck by lightning," said a spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service. Another individual remains at the hospital, while a fourth person has been transferred to Morriston Hospital in Swansea due to burn injuries.
"We sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the hazardous area response team, and an ambulance officer. It is understood that the pair taken from the 2,600ft (800m) Cribyn peak in the Beacons included a man in his 50s.
"Three people in total have been conveyed to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. Another of those injured was on Corn Du, south-west of Pen y Fan.
"Two were conveyed by helicopter with life-threatening injuries, and one person was conveyed by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries."
