No-one was seriously injured, a tweet from Surrey Police said. The coach hit a barrier next to the hard shoulder under a bridge, but it was not yet known what led to the crash, Highways England said.
Highways England said three lanes had been closed between junctions 8 and 9 on the anti-clockwise section of the motorway following the crash. A spokesman said the coach, from the continent, had substantial damage.
The ambulance service said five were taken to hospital and all other passengers were checked and discharged at the scene. In a tweet, Surrey Police said no-one was seriously injured.
Delays and disruption were expected on the motorway until 06:30 BST, the Highways England website said. Three lanes were closed overnight between junctions 8 and 9 on the anti-clockwise section of the motorway until the coach was recovered.
Surrey Police said work to recover the coach was likely to continue into the rush hour and warned drivers to expect long delays. One lane remained closed on Monday morning while debris was cleared from the carriageway and the barrier was checked.
