South East Coast Ambulance Service said 48 people were on board the coach, which also had a trailer carrying a car, when it crashed near Leatherhead, Surrey, at about 01:30 BST. The 52-seater coach, which is from Romania, hit a concrete parapet on the motorway near Leatherhead in the early hours, Surrey Police said.
The coach hit a barrier next to the hard shoulder under a bridge, but it was not yet known what led to the crash, Highways England said. Forty-eight people were on board the coach. Six suffered minor injuries and the rest were checked and discharged by ambulance crews at the scene.
A spokesman said the coach, from the continent, had substantial damage. The coach was travelling from London to Romania and had substantial damage. No other vehicles were involved.
In a tweet, Surrey Police said no-one was seriously injured. Replacement coach
Three lanes were closed overnight between junctions 8 and 9 on the anti-clockwise section of the motorway until the coach was recovered. Police, who were called to the scene at about 01:30 BST, arranged for a replacement coach to take the passengers to Clacket Lane service station while the operator sent a replacement vehicle.
One lane remained closed on Monday morning while debris was cleared from the carriageway and the barrier was checked. The passengers' luggage also had to be removed from the vehicle.
The ambulance service said five were taken to hospital after the crash and all other passengers were checked and discharged at the scene. Three lanes were closed overnight between junctions 8 and 9 on the anti-clockwise carriageway until the coach was recovered.
The motorway later reopened after debris was cleared from the road.
Highways England said the coach had also been towing a trailer carrying a car.
A spokesman said it was not yet known why the coach crashed.
