Western Avenue in Cardiff closed: Long delays for motorists after 'police incident' Western Avenue in Cardiff closed: Long delays for motorists as police investigate 'fallen body' on A48
(35 minutes later)
Motorists attempting to enter or exit Cardiff are currently facing long delays due to a “police incident” on one of the city's busiest roads. South Wales Police have said one of Cardiff's busiest roads will remain closed "for the forseeable future" due to on-going investigations into the death of a man this morning.
Wales Online reports that police cars are blocking Western Avenue, which is closed in both east- and west-bound directions underneath the Gabalfa interchange. The flyover remains open, however. Motorists attempting to enter or exit Cardiff are currently facing long delays due to the incident on Western Avenue, which has closed the road in both directions under the Gabalfa flyover.
A diversion has been put in place onto the interchange to re-route drivers back onto Western Avenue, but traffic is reportedly building up along the A4119. South Wales Police said: "The body of a man appears to have fallen from the flyover in the early hours of this morning.
The BBC reports that traffic is currently queuing for four miles. "The deceased was wearing a cream jumper and red t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes and may have walked towards the flyover from the direction of Canton.
"Police officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have been driving across or beneath the interchange between 4:00 am and 5:00 am."
The road remains closed for the forseeable future and motorists are encouraged to take an alternative route, police added.
