Ton Koot, a spokesman for the local fire brigade in Alphen aan den Rijn, told Dutch broadcaster NOS that heavy machinery is being transported to the scene in order to search for anyone trapped in the wreckage, the Associated Press reported. The cranes are believed to have been transporting material for a bridge when they collapsed.
Koot said he did not know how seriously injured the victims were.
NOS reported that 20 people were injured, many of them seriously.
