Framing Perceptions: Sightsavers Your art, our walls
(25 days later)
Framing Perceptions: Sightsavers Giant crabs taking over the world, women morphing into crows and young stars wrapped in baby blankets ... we knew Guardian readers’ artworks would be inspired, which is why we launched a Readers’ Art project three years ago. Since then, thousands of submissions have been shared on themes chosen by you every month. In January, we decided to take the project further, launching a competition on GuardianWitness for readers to feature in our inaugural exhibition.
Across the world, people with disabilities are more likely to experience poverty and social discrimination. Sightsavers is committed to eliminating avoidable blindness and supporting people with visual impairments as equal members of society. Two judges Guardian art critic Jonathan Jones and British Art Show 8 curator Gilly Fox handpicked their favourite artworks on the themes outer space, landscapes, the future, music, dreams, travel and still lifes. Jonathan Jones says: “It is heartening to see so much creativity and energy month on month, through the seasons, being expended not for money or fame but simply to share art. This is a celebration of the joy of art.”
