Your art, our walls Daring to defy barriers
(about 1 month later)
Giant crabs taking over the world, women morphing into crows and young stars wrapped in baby blankets ... we knew Guardian readers’ artworks would be inspired, which is why we launched a Readers’ Art project three years ago. Since then, thousands of submissions have been shared on themes chosen by you every month. In January, we decided to take the project further, launching a competition on GuardianWitness for readers to feature in our inaugural exhibition. PIP supports adults with learning disabilities to achieve their potential.
Two judges Guardian art critic Jonathan Jones and British Art Show 8 curator Gilly Fox handpicked their favourite artworks on the themes outer space, landscapes, the future, music, dreams, travel and still lifes. Jonathan Jones says: “It is heartening to see so much creativity and energy month on month, through the seasons, being expended not for money or fame but simply to share art. This is a celebration of the joy of art.” Working holistically, PIP provides a dynamic range of services designed to build vital life skills, promote independence and build self esteem. PIP caters for a broad range of artistic talents and interests: some of the people it supports wish to develop a serious artistic practice, while others simply want to explore creative pursuits for their own enjoyment and therapeutic value.
