Confusion over Harrison fitness Harrison must wait over medical
(about 1 hour later)
Scott Harrison's defence of his WBO featherweight title remains in doubt after mixed reports about his fitness. Scott Harrison's world title defence against Nicky Cook remains in doubt as he will have to wait until next week to learn the result of a medical.
Harrison's lawyer Massimo Franchi said the Scot had passed a British Boxing Board of Control-approved medical and will fight Nicky Cook on 9 December. The WBO featherweight champion returned to Scotland this week after five weeks in a Spanish prison on assault charges.
But Harrison's manager Barry Hughes told Five Live that while the signs are good he is waiting on official results. Harrison's lawyer said on Thursday that the Scot had passed a medical, meaning the 9 December fight could go ahead.
Harrison, 29, returned to Scotland for the medical after spending five weeks in a Spanish prison on assault charges. But Five Live reports that the British Boxing Board of Control does not expect the test results until next week.
However, Hughes says the medical results alone will not determine whether the Scot can get back in the ring.
He said the British Board of Boxing Control and the WBO would consider the results then make a decision on whether Harrison could defend his title.
