As well as the three men involved, five others needed medical treatment from the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS). 'Seriously injured'
Three ambulances, paramedics and two doctors were sent to the crash site by two different ambulance services. Police said a Ford Mondeo and MG Rover had collided south of the M50 junction.
"Upon arrival, the emergency services found a car which had been involved in a serious collision with four men inside," said a WMAS spokeswoman. "A HGV then stopped and was involved in a collision with a silver Mercedes and black Mazda," a force spokesman said.
"Sadly, nothing could be done to save two men and they were confirmed dead on scene." "Two occupants from the Mercedes died at the scene and a further two occupants were seriously injured - one was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and one to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
"A third man was in a critical condition and received advanced trauma care by ambulance staff and the trauma doctor at the roadside before being alerted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. "We are currently checking on their conditions."
