(about 10 hours later)
An armed siege in Greater Manchester ended overnight when police went in to the house and arrested two men. Two men have been arrested after police officers went into a house in Greater Manchester which was under siege for more than 36 hours.
Police marksmen surrounded the terraced house in Hindley, Wigan, on Friday lunchtime after it was thought an armed man was holding another man hostage. Marksmen had surrounded the property on Hereford Road in Hindley since Friday after reports that a man, possibly armed, was holding another hostage.
Two men were arrested on suspicion of kidnap after police entered the house on Hereford Road at about 0200 GMT. Police entered the house at 0120 GMT and fired a Taser at one of the men. Both men were found in the loft space.
Neither of the men or any officers were hurt in the operation. Police have not said if any weapons were found. The men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
'Controlled manner'
Both were taken to hospital and received treatment for minor injuries.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At 0120 GMT police went into the house in Hereford Road, Hindley, and discovered two men in the loft space.
"One man was subdued with a Taser to allow officers to detain him in a safe and controlled manner."
