(19 minutes later)
Two men have been arrested after police officers went into a house in Greater Manchester which was under siege for more than 36 hours. A man is being questioned over a 36-hour armed siege at a house in Hindley, Greater Manchester.
Marksmen had surrounded the property on Hereford Road in Hindley since Friday after reports that a man, possibly armed, was holding another hostage. The stand-off started on Friday after police received reports a man, possibly armed, was holding a hostage.
Police entered the house at 0120 GMT and fired a Taser at one of the men. Both men were found in the loft space. Officers entered the house in Hereford Road at 0120 GMT and used a Taser gun to arrest a man who was in the loft.
The men have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. A second man, aged 31, who was arrested at the house has been released and is being treated as a witness and victim, police said.
'Controlled manner' Police said a 34-year-old man was being questioned on suspicion of possessing a firearm.
Both were taken to hospital and received treatment for minor injuries. Speaking after the situation was brought under control, Supt Peter Matthews said they acted after receiving information that a man inside the property was in possession of a firearm and a container of petrol.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At 0120 GMT police went into the house in Hereford Road, Hindley, and discovered two men in the loft space. Police negotiators were called in but a decision was made to enter the property by force after they failed to make contact for several hours.
"One man was subdued with a Taser to allow officers to detain him in a safe and controlled manner."
Neighbours said a woman managed to escape from the house before the stand-off started.
