The majority of the 19 Dumfries and Galloway school closures were in the eastern part of the region. The worst-hit area appears to have been the Scottish Borders where 33 primaries, four secondaries and three nurseries were closed.

Delays were reported around rush-hour on the M77 after an accident at junction five. In Aberdeenshire, the B974 Banchory to Fettercain Road was closed at Cairn O'Mount because of snow.
Grampian Police said stretches of the A96 around Inverurie and the A95 near Keith were causing concern. The M77 was badly affected from Junction 5 near Newton Mearns through to the A77 in Kilmarnock.
There was also an accident on the A90 at the Bridge of Dee and police urged drivers to take extra care on all routes. Many ferry services faced disruption due to the weather.
