The 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) has entered its third day, drawing participants from 137 countries and territories, including global leaders, major corporations, international organizations, and policy experts.
This year’s theme is ‘Common Values the Basis for Growth in a Multipolar World’. The forum offers a platform for high-level discussions on global economic challenges, sustainable development, and new models of cooperation amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. The 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) has entered its final day, bringing together delegates from nearly 140 countries, including heads of state, major corporations, global organizations, and policy experts.
Thursday featured the opening of the forum and a large-scale exhibition showcasing innovative projects from Russian regions and international partners. This year’s theme is ‘Common Values the Basis for Growth in a Multipolar World’. The forum serves as a platform for high-level dialogue on economic challenges, sustainable development, and new cooperation models amid global power shifts.
Panel discussions on day two of the forum addressed a wide range of issues, from tackling global economic instability to promoting national identity and values in a multipolar world, as well as expanding BRICS and Global South cooperation. Friday’s plenary session featured keynote speeches from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Bahraini National Security Adviser Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, and South African Vice President Paul Mashatile.
Russian officials and businessmen also held bilateral meetings with international delegations from countries including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Putin addressed Russia’s economic trajectory, global partnerships, and BRICS’s expanding role in a multipolar world. Other leaders highlighted mounting geopolitical tensions and expressed support for deeper ties with Moscow. Putin also held bilateral talks with high-ranking international guests on the sidelines of the session.
Russian President Vladimir Putin received an official invitation to the G20 summit in South Africa and met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who he called the forum’s main guest. Both leaders are scheduled to deliver speeches at Friday’s SPIEF plenary session, the forum’s centerpiece event. Panel discussions on Friday covered issues ranging from global market volatility and international cooperation to innovation, technology, and AI regulation.
