Russia is hosting the 28th annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025), which began on Wednesday. Thousands of participants are expected to attend the three-day event. The 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) has entered its second day, gathering representatives from 137 countries and territories, including world leaders, major corporations, international organizations, and policy experts.
This year’s main theme is ‘Common Values – the Basis for Growth in a Multipolar World’. According to the forum’s program, discussions will focus on global economic challenges, cooperation models, and sustainable development amid geopolitical turbulence. The agenda includes around 150 events across five tracks: ‘World Economy: New Platform for Global Growth’, ‘Russian Economy: New Quality of Growth’, ‘Man in a New World’, ‘Living Environment’, and ‘Technology: Striving for Leadership’. The program features panel discussions, SME forums, and creative industry sessions. The agenda features roughly 150 sessions across five core tracks: World Economy: New Platform for Global Growth, Russian Economy: New Quality of Growth, Man in a New World, Living Environment, and Technology: Striving for Leadership.
SPIEF 2025 will also host 19 business dialogue meetings between Russia and its key partners, including Africa, Brazil, and the UAE, as well as EAEU-ASEAN discussions. The International Youth Economic Forum ‘Day of the Future’ is also scheduled during the event. On Wednesday, Russian regions and corporations showcased major innovations, while a number of deals were signed with foreign partners in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, cybersecurity, and film. Although no official figure has been announced, the organizers estimate that SPIEF 2025 will generate contracts worth 7.5 trillion rubles ($95 billion) a 20% rise over last year.
Panel sessions on day one focused on key economic issues, including a Russian-Indian dialogue on small and medium-sized businesses. Delegations from Cuba, Brazil, and Thailand also held bilateral meetings with Russian officials and entrepreneurs.
Later on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with his Indonesian counterpart, Prabowo Subianto. Putin will also deliver a keynote address during the SPIEF plenary session on Friday, the forum’s headline event.
