A man has died and another is in a critical condition in hospital after a two-car crash on one of Swindon's busiest roads. A man has died and another is in a serious condition in hospital after a two-car crash on one of Swindon's busiest roads.
The collision between a blue Vauxhall Astra and a red Nissan happened at 06:30 BST on Thamesdown Drive near the Orbital Retail Park. Police believe passenger Paul Winters, 33, from Swindon, may have been thrown from a red Nissan on Thamesdown Drive in the 06:30 BST collision.
A third man was also injured. He and another man have been arrested in connection with the crash. The driver, aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene and then taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
The road was closed for several hours in both directions but has reopened. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Thrown from vehicle The men from Swindon - who were both in a blue Vauxhall Astra which was involved in the collision - are in custody at Gablecross police station.
The Nissan passenger, a local man in his 30s, who may have been thrown from the vehicle, was treated by ambulance crews on a nearby verge. He was later declared dead at Great Western Hospital. Police believe both cars were travelling in opposite directions when the crash happened outside the Orbital Retail Park.
The car's driver, aged in his 20s, was also treated at the scene. He was later taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol and is in a critical condition. The road was closed for several hours in both directions but has since reopened.

At the time of the crash, the driver's condition was described as "critical" but police said his injuries are no longer life-threatening.
