Police in Fairfax County said two people in the Springfield area were found in a vehicle and suffering from gunshot wounds. Two people were found suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle in Springfield Wednesday following a bizarre series of events, Fairfax County police said Thursday.
Few details were immediately available about the incident, which happened early Thursday in the 7500 block of Tralee Woods Court. On Twitter, police said that officers were responding to the area to serve a warrant, but it wasn’t clear whom it was for. Police also said that a vehicle heading toward an officer struck a police cruiser. The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. as officers were headed to a home in the 7500 block Tralee Woods Court to serve an arrest warrant for reckless discharge of a firearm, police said. Before officers reached Tralee Woods Court, two vehicles approached a police cruiser a short distance away near the intersection of Creedmor Drive and Irishmore Court. One of the vehicles struck a police cruiser, police said.
A suspect is in custody, police said on Twitter, but they did not give any details about the person. The condition of the two people who were found in the vehicle is not yet known. A driver and a passenger in one of the vehicles were found to be suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds and were transported to the hospital, police said.
The incident is under investigation. Detectives are still investigating how the individuals were shot. The driver of the other vehicle was taken into custody. No officers were injured during the encounter.
Police are still looking for the person who was the subject of the arrest warrant.
