Our village has held the Kimpton May Festival over the 3 days of the first bank holiday in May and this year will be the 47th. No other village in England has a similar event and as well as bringing all the community together, we raise thousands of pounds for local groups and charities. Losing the May Day holiday would mean the end of a wonderful tradition. Don't do it.

    • For heaven's sake. There are so many things which need changing so why pick on this one. The May Bank Holiday falls at a time when there are reasonably long hours and bright weather. October could be dark and dull. St George's Day is close to the May Bank Holiday anyway. Go and sort out something that needs changing.For heaven's sake.     • I know this may seen petty but I don't want to loose the May day Bank holiday because it is the weekend my husband and I met and the weekend I got married I always class this as our Bank holiday weekend. Nearly Nine years this year and planning a 10th Wedding Anniversary bank holiday weekend for next year.     • If I were a foreign tourist I'd avoid UK Bank holidfays to avoid the queues. With the fuss made by the right wing Tories when Mayday was made a Bank Holiday its obviously political dogma dressed up, and they think we are so stupid we wont see through it. Mayday is the time to mark the ancient festival of Beltane and goes way back, its not about military parades in front of old men in podiums.If I were a foreign tourist I'd avoid UK Bank holidfays to avoid the queues.     • I cannot believe that the idea of double summer time has been dropped - I'm gutted. This would have created so much of a feel-good factor I'm surprised that all politicians aren't for it.
