There is one big problem with a Lib/Lab pact: it is Gordon Brown himself and the history of his dealings with the Lib Dems. He's talking about the ash cloud, which he fears could disenfranchise thousands of voters if they are still stranded overseas on 6 May. Dr Fox told Sky News his own wife is stuck in Hong Kong and has been told the earliest she can return is 11 May. He also fears postal votes from armed forces personnel and expatriates may not be flown home in time to be counted.
