The Conservative event is going to last about 90 minutes apparently, say the BBC's Brian Wheeler, who is there. They are going for a serious and heavyweight tone. We are sat in a giant marquee in the derelict turbine hall of Battersea power station. William Hague, with his singular intonation, kicks off the Tories' launch before handing over to shadow chancellor George Osborne, complete with blue tie. He begins on familiar ground with the National Insurance policy - aka "Labour's jobs tax" - but then says "Britain needs a whole new economic vision" where "we save, we invest and we export".
