Russians regrouping in the east Belarus' recent deployment of forces along the Ukraine's northern border is likely to fix Ukrainian troops in the area, preventing their deployment in the Donbas, according to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Russian losses mount in eastern offensive

While Russian advances have stalled around the city of Izyum, they have had some success to the east where they appear to have captured the city of Rubizhne, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Russian forces have been making slow progress in the east, with the capture of Rubizhne and Popasna in recent weeks.
But Ukrainian forces launched a successful attack on Russian troops in the area earlier this week, destroying nearly all of a Russian battalion's armoured vehicles while they were attempting to cross the Siversky Donets river. But their advances around Izyum have been repelled, and they appear to be focusing on trying to encircle Severodonetsk, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) described the attempted river crossing as a "highly risky manoeuvre" and said it showed the pressure Russian commanders were under to make progress in their operations in eastern Ukraine. A successful attack by Ukrainian forces on Russian troops last week, destroyed nearly all of a Russian battalion's armoured vehicles while they were attempting to cross the Siversky Donets river.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are continuing attempts to push Russian troops back from Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city. The ISW says this has likely forced the Russians to divert some of their artillery to the area to try to stop the Ukrainian counterattack. According to the UK MoD, Russia has now likely suffered losses of one third of the ground forces it committed in February.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are continuing attempts to push Russian troops back from Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, with some reports indicating that parts of the Ukrainian counteroffensive have reached the Ukraine-Russia border.
The ISW reports that Russian forces are likely to withdraw from the area, only attempting to defend supply lines further east from Kharkiv.

Russian forces are now regrouping in the area in an effort to resume attacks towards Mykolaiv, according to the ISW. Russian forces are now fortifying defensive positions by digging trenches stretching for tens of miles and building concrete structures across the southern areas of Ukraine under their control, according to the ISW.
In the Black Sea, Russia is continuing efforts to reinforce its troops on Snake Island. These efforts suffered a setback this week as Ukrainian forces struck Russian air defences on the island and resupply vessels, according to the MoD, which had become more exposed following the sinking of the Russian flagship Moskva in April. Control over the island has become more important following the sinking of the Russian flagship Moskva in April.
